Artists for Environmental Restoration (AER), (formally Heartland Community Restoration Center) is an Indiana-based nonprofit, tax-exempt organization described under United States Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c) (3) and classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity as described under Code Section 509 (a) (2)

AER is focused on using art-making processes to inspire deep levels of communication about the condition of our environment amid climate change and global warming. Visual images can play a vital role in creating deeper levels of dialogue about the destructive nature of these phenomena. Art can provide a safety net when asking deep questions that can lead to the many truths about the environmental crisis we are experiencing.

We work almost exclusively with volunteers, with only one staff member who is responsible for the majority of administrative and fundraising work, and who receives a nominal monthly stipend. Additionally, an accounting firm does our organization’s required state and government level forms and monthly paperwork, and provides these services at a discounted price. With a low overhead, we are able to direct over 75% of our individual donations and grant funding to our community events and programs.
